Coach Mike MacGillivray - Kicking1on1 Head Instructor
Coach Mike MacGillivray has spent the last 22 years in the kicking game, both as a player and a coach, and his background affords his students a versatile and unique coaching experience that includes all aspects of the kicking game.
After earning All-American honors as a placekicker at Loyola High School in Los Angeles, Mike earned an athletic scholarship to USC, where he played for legendary coaches Pete Carroll and John Robinson, serving as USC's starting punter for 4 years and as USC's holder his senior year. Originally recruited with a primary emphasis on placekicking and as a kickoff specialist, Mike's work and focus on all facets of the kicking game in high school allowed him to fill the punting role at USC in 1998, where, through various coaching changes, he remained the starting punter for 4 years.
Mike holds 4 USC career school punting records he set his senior year, in 2001.
Mike began his coaching career in 1997, serving as a camp counselor and kicking and punting instructor with The Kicking Game, run by Paul and John Stonehouse, where he coached for 6 years. After his senior year at USC, he served as a special teams assistant coach under Coach Pete Carroll in the spring of 2002, where he worked with USC's kickers, punters, snappers, and holders. After pursuing professional interests in the private sector, Mike returned to kicking and punting instruction in 2007 coaching occasional, individual lessons, until Kicking1on1 was eventually formed and founded in 2010.
Coach Mike's passion for teaching the kicking game stems from his own experience, in that kicking is a craft and vehicle that can open many doors for young men, both in personal growth and in professional opportunity. Kicking1on1's goal is to provide its players with the mental and physical tools needed to excel, so they may carry these on and off the field.
Coach Mike resides in Sierra Madre, California and works in the family insurance business at Shaw, Moses, Mendenhall and Associates in South Pasadena as a Commercial and Personal Lines Insurance Agent/Broker: www.smmainsurance.com. He is an avid golfer, guitar player and music producer, and an aquarium enthusiast.
